*Hej is the most common greeting in Swedish.

I’m Hannah and I’m a PhD student in the Non-Lexical Vocalizations Group at Linköping University. My supervisors are Prof. Leelo Keevallik and Prof. Mathias Broth. I work at the intersection of conversation analysis and human-computer interaction and study robots in everyday interaction with humans.

In my PhD, I study robot sounds and how people interpret them as social actions. I currently work with Cozmo robots in family homes and autonomous buses in regular traffic. I use video data to analyse how humans interpret the robots’ sounds and embodied actions on a moment-by-moment basis in situated interaction. Researching how humans interact with robots in the real world, my work contributes to the design of “human-friendly” robots that follow tacit human interaction principles.

I hold a BSc in Cognitive Science from University of Osnabrück and a MSc cum laude in Interaction Technology from University of Twente. Throughout my master studies, I worked as a student research assistant for Prof. Karola Pitsch at University of Duisburg-Essen. I was a visiting researcher in the Robots in Groups Lab at Cornell University in fall 2017 supervised by Dr. Malte Jung and studied how surgical robots affect teamwork in the operating room. Since November 2018, I am a PhD student at Linköping University in Sweden.
